How the love language spinner works
Pick one or more of the five love languages, then press Spin for an Idea. The spinner draws one idea at random from those languages: something small and specific you can do today. Choose only your partner's main love language for ideas that land, or select all five when you just want inspiration.
The five love languages
- Words of affirmation: compliments, notes, saying thank you and saying it out loud.
- Quality time: undivided attention, with no phones and no multitasking.
- Acts of service: taking something off their plate without being asked.
- Receiving gifts: thoughtful tokens that show you were thinking of them. It's the thought, not the price.
- Physical touch: hugs, hand-holding and closeness. Everything in this list is non-sexual.
The idea comes from Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages: people tend to give and feel love in different ways, so a gesture that means a lot to one person can barely register with another.
Tips for using the ideas
- Spin once a day and do the idea before bed. It turns into a habit fast.
- Use Remove ideas when asked, so you work through the list without repeats.
- Not sure of their love language? Spin across all five for a week and notice which ideas get the biggest reaction.
- Share a spin with your partner and ask them to do one for you too.
Frequently asked questions
What are the 5 love languages?
Words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, receiving gifts and physical touch. The idea comes from Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages.
How do I find out my partner's love language?
Notice how they show love and what they ask for most often. People often give love the way they like to receive it. You can also just ask, or try ideas from each language and see which ones mean most to them.
Is this a love language quiz?
No. It's an idea generator. It assumes you already know, or want to explore, the love language you're aiming for, and gives you a concrete thing to do.
Are the physical touch ideas sexual?
No. Every physical touch idea here is affectionate and non-sexual: hugs, hand-holding, massages, slow dancing.
